The Diaries in this volume relate to the period between 1st January 1847 and the 6th March 1848, when the affairs of the Lahore state were carried on by a Council of Regency under the direction of the Resident and Agent to the Governor-General, North-West Frontier. No diaries were prepared after the 4th March 1848, the proceedings of the Resident and Chief Commissioner being reported to the Government of India in the form of weekly Abstracts of Correspondence.
