Niamatullah’s Makhzan-i-Afghani is noteworthy among the Afghan chronicles on account of the style and quality of narration. He understood the scope of history, for which reason he excluded from his book, all fables and anecdotes which formed a distinguishing feature of the Afghan chronicles. The attainments of the author and his discriminating attitude increase the importance of his work. The English translation covers only ninety pages of the Makhzan-i-Afghani; the remaining pages are devoted to English tranlastions of ecerpts from the different Persian sources, explanatory notes and a brief resume of each of the king’s relation with the neighboring Rajput kingdoms.
